Guest post at Mademoisielle

Hello my fair ladies. By taking a look at my blog history, it look like July isn't my blog month. Luckily (?), this month is almost over so I can maybe/hopefully/probably be back to regular posting soon.

Today there's still nothing really happening on the blog, except the new (handwritten) blog header. You will have to visit Siel's blog Mademoisielle for reading my guest post. I'm talking about my style and my essentials. A topic for all the cool kids in town ;-)

Note: It looks like I am really bad in making guest posts, my images always remain invisible on other people's blog so that's why I post them here again. But again, for the talking: click here

Sunbathing/ Pool party essentials

After a harsh and long spring, this week's summertime invites sunbathing. Take a look to this essential list of items you MUST carry with you when you hit the beach or the pool: sunscreen - hat - lip balm with SPF - water - beach towel - books and magazines - after sun - water spray - sunglasses - eye cream with SPF.

Tonight my friend throws a pool party. Some drinks and bbq besides the pool, I can imagine worse things ;-) What do you love to cook on the barbecue? I'm thinking of bringing some salmon and prawns.* Anyway, I wish I could wear the outfit below: the cutest bikini, Hermes sandals, a striped dress and a beautiful necklace. It will be less glamorous, but that's not the point of having fun with your friends.

And now I'm off again, the watermelon in the fridge is calling me.

* Damn it, now I'm hungry.

Mardi on a friday

Well well well, it looks like I'm out of my "blog flow" these days. Not that I don't have any ideas but no time, a major tv show crush**, a writer's block*** and a sudden revival of the party animal in me. This is what I wore Tuesday when I went to Mardi at Strantwerpen****. Very trendy, very exclusive but especially very expensive. While I try to suppress the amount of money I've spent that night, I show you some snaps of my outfit.

I remember to whine about the fact that I don't own a pretty white dress. Oops, I forgot about this beauty. This dress from Roberto Cavalli makes that I can line through one thing of my wish list, yay! I think I love everything about it: the fabric, the cut, the snake details, the back. I combined it with my new Zara blazer, matching nail polish, colorful bracelets, my leopard ballet flats***** and all the make up I own. It turned out to be a good combo for a fun night out.

note: for all those who were asking. I got in Saturday at Dour festival. I saw Bon Iver and I had soooo much fun!!

-------------------------------
* That's a lie. I have too much time, what makes me very lazy.
** I started to watch The Vampire Diaries and it's not the best tv show I've ever seen but I'm hooked anyway. Even though it's about vampires.
*** Speaking of a good excuse.
**** A pun of 'strand' (in English: 'beach') and 'Antwerpen' (name of my city), well thought ;-)
***** Flats are a must for surviving the dance floor, right?

Friday 13th

Well I just realized it's friday 13th and today finally starts to make some sense. Really, today was not fun. First, I wanted to "plan" my outfit for tomorrow. My friends and I will spend the day and the night at a Belgian festival, named Dour. Unfortunately it will rain non-stop, what makes that I won't wear something cute as the ladies from above.

Two, when I finally found an outfit I was happy about and could imagine as still kind of cute, I printed my ticket to found out it was for the wrong date. Not saturday, but freaking friday 13th. After the cry and some not so nice words telepathically sent to the person who bought me that wrong dated ticket, I tried to fix the damage. But the thing is, it is still not sure if they will change my friday ticket for a saturday ticket and I really hate the feeling that I don't have control on this situation. Tip from me for you: always buy things like this yourself, if something goes wrong you can only blame yourself.

Anyway, hopefully I will enjoy a rainy day at Dour after a train ride of 3 hours tomorrow(yihaa), otherwise I will sit for an extra three hours in the train like a cry baby ;-) So wish me luck. xo

Rain proof summer

I used to associate the concept "summer" with sun, hot temperatures, dresses, bare legs, sandals, picnics, cocktails, dinner outside etc. Now in 2012, it's more with thunder and lightning, rain, moodiness, going to the movies, hot chocolates, more rain and having a cold. With other words, this weather makes me a moody coach potato. That's why I leave you tonight with some rain proof "summer" outfit inspiration, hopefully these girls will help me to dress up tomorrow morning after some "pyjama-only" kind of days.

Guest post at The Ginger Diaries

While Nikki is enjoying her vacation in America, I did a guest post for her at The Ginger Diaries. I shared a travel story from my three magnificent weeks in Australia after my graduation. Unfortunately something went wrong and the photos don't show up on her blog, so you can see them here and read the story there. xo

The no-buy is over

blazer: Zara - black shirt: Street One - belt: Gucci - jeans: Tommy Hilfiger - ballet flats: Steve Madden - bracelets: Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Reminiscence.

Hello beautiful ladies! Here I am again with a late night post, I am still enjoying my vacation and I'm writing this post quickly between two parties (yeah party animal, uhum...) In the beginning of this year I promised you to do more outfit posts, yet I didn't keep that promise until... Now?*

My no-buy is officially over and I did already some sale shopping. Well, I bought 3 items in the sales and already 2 from the new collections, like expected. The Zara blazer is already a new favorite, it's perfect to dress up a basic jeans or to combine with a dress for special occasions.

The jeans I am wearing is already from the new collection from Tommy Hilfiger. When I cleaned out my closet some time ago I found this awesome grey jeans I bought like 5 years ago and it's still in perfect condition, I hope this jeans will last that long too. Until now I only had dark blue jeans, so the lighter blue is perfect for summery "Belgian" weather.

I don't know if I already told you but I passed all my exams. That's a good reason to treat yourself with a present, right? I stopped by the Reminiscence shop and bought this beautiful collection of bracelets. I love beads so these will be seen a lot on my arm.

Well that's all for today, it's time to leave for the next party! xo

* Question mark because I don't know when the next outfit post will be, probably in december ;-)

Sane sales shopping

Great bargains, red sale signs and hoards of women rifling through bins piled high with reduced items, like bees round a honey pot, jostling with one another for that must-have bargain buy. Yes, there is certainly no better way to test my new shop spirit than during the sales. Because today my no-buy was officially over, it was time to test that the super responsible shopper in me.
Sharing is caring: so here are my tips and tricks for keeping it all sane during the sales. Because let's be honest: it's funny how sales shopping brings out the best (or worst) in women. Honing in on their hunting instinct, turning into warriors at the mere mention of a sale. A sane woman can turn positively irrational at the sight a 50% reduction rail. Sales can be overwhelming and it have often led me to waste money, but not this time: now I have a plan.

Before shopping
Plan ahead
Browse the online shop of your favorite store to pre-select what you want to try on in the actual store. One important thing I learned during my no-buy is that I lose all bit of common sense when I fill that online basket.

Make a wish list
Sales clothing tends to be fashionable pieces which are likely to become out-dated quickly, so if the item you have your eye on is just coming to the end of its trend, then consider how long you'll able to wear it. Think about what you still need? Non-seasonal pieces or basics like a leather jacket (check), denim shirt (check), parka, shirt dress (etc.) are perfect sale buys.

Balance quality and price
Sale is the time to get a high end item for what you'd normally spend on the high street. Same goes for fancy fabrics like silk or cashmere. High quality, low price... Score!

Set a budget
Set a budget and stick to it. But because nobody is perfect you can allow yourself one 'must have' that you run into. Now you're ready to hit the shopping streets without bankrupting yourself.

During shopping
Go early
It's best to wait until the midpoint of sales season to go in for the kill, knowing that it's usually the second price-markdown that offers the best values. Waiting until the very end of the sales will provide the most substantial discounts, but choice is often limited by that point, and when shopping for clothes, finding the right size becomes a challenge during the last days.

Ask yourself these questions:
* Would you buy it full price?
Do not get distracted into buying clothes just because they are in the sale. How many times have you come away from a sale with a bagful of clothes that you honestly never really wear, or don't feel good in? Getting a cheap item might be exciting in the store, but once you wear it, the deal becomes irrelevant. The garment still looks, feels and fits the same. So always ask yourself, would I still but this if it wasn't reduced?

* Will you like it next season?
Take a look at your wish list: does the item suits your style? Will it last all year long or is it just a one season wonder?

* Does it fit my style and other pieces in my closet?
All super fancy eye catchers don't make an amazing closet, try to find some classic and timeless pieces that you can wear throughout the year.

Wear comfortable clothes
Wear something comfortable that's easy to change out of. And flat shoes, because only superwoman can survive a whole day of walking errands with high heels. Also, wear clothes you love to wear, so you can see if the item would fit with your current wardrobe.

Hold on while shopping
If you see an item but you're unsure about it, don't buy it and don't ever look at it again. If you're not that radical, hold on to it while making your round in the store. Sale shopping goes quickly so this way you won't be disappointed to see it's gone once you decide to get it.

Check it and test it.
Don't buy anything without a visit to the fitting rooms. Since a majority of clearance items are overstock or returned products that have been sitting out for a long time, be sure to give things a thorough once-over before purchasing. Closely check the items before purchasing them because sales are final. If you discover a hole after you've already paid, the item is yours.

Have fun
Don't stress and maybe you just run into an unexpected new-favorite item.
